Consumer Reports: Top 5 Automakers Known for Their Dependability

Everyone wants a great deal on a new car, but what we value even more is reliability.

A car that constantly breaks down or demands frequent repairs can be a major hassle and drain your wallet. On the flip side, a vehicle that keeps cruising without issues means one less worry in our already stressful lives.

Consumer Reports recently surveyed its members, asking them to share any problems they faced with their cars in the past year. They gathered data on over 330,000 vehicles spanning model years 2000 to 2023, including a few 2024 models.

After evaluating 20 different problem areas, ranging from squeaky brakes to transmission glitches and electric vehicle charging hiccups, Consumer Reports has identified the most reliable automakers.
